Today we were delighted to see Dr. Basem Abdelfattah and his patient, Alton Maiden, sit down with Carrie McClure on Good Morning Texas, the morning talk show watched by tens of thousands of Texans every weekday.
“Dr. A,” as his patients know him, is a pain medicine specialist and anesthesiologist with a specific focus on minimally invasive spine surgery. He earned his medical degree from Texas Tech University and did his advanced fellowship and residency at Loyola University in Chicago.
Alton Maiden is a proud son of Dallas who went on to become a starting defensive tackle at Notre Dame, where he played under the great Lou Holtz. Despite his supreme physical condition, Alton started developing serious back pain that made it tough to even get out of bed in the morning. That’s an awful place to be for anyone…and this is a guy who used to take down tight ends trying to barrel down the field! Read more after the video…
After trying various remedies for his pain, Mr. Maiden called a Patient Care Manager at North American Spine. His first experience of North American Spine was that the Patient Care Manager was kind, knowledgeable, and organized. She had him send him his MRI and she performed a free analysis of it. It looked like the problem might be bulging discs. The Patient Care Manager suggested a meeting with Dr. Basem and even negotiated with Mr. Maiden’s insurance company on his behalf.
It turned out the diagnosis was right: bulging discs.
And so, about one year ago this week, Dr. Basem performed a minimally invasive spine procedure that brought Mr. Maiden back to the physical condition he had been in during his playing days. The procedure was an IntelliSpineSM Laser Procedure, which involves surgically removing a portion of his disc that was impinging on his nerve. The procedure took less than an hour and Mr. Maiden says he felt better almost immediately.
Now, Alton Maiden is living and working—free of pain—in his hometown of Dallas. He spends his time helping others get in top physical shape, playing with his kids, and doing community outreach, sometimes with his brothers’ organization, Two Wins. Check them out at two-wins.org!
We are so grateful that Dr. Basem and Mr. Maiden could take the time to help spread the word about the incredible back and neck pain relief offered at North American Spine.
