Dr. Kushwaha is a board-certified specialist in orthopedic surgery. After receiving a B.A. degree from the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Kushwaha received his medical training at the University of Texas at San Antonio, which he completed in 1991. He left Texas for California to do his General Surgery internship at the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center, where he stayed on to complete a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1996. Following that, he joined the team at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downey, CA as a Spine Surgery fellow.

What makes Dr. Kushwaha particularly effective as a surgeon is that he’s not only heavily engaged with providing care, but also an esteemed educator. He is on the clinical faculty of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas Medical School, and a co-director of the Spine Fellowship, which aids in overseeing how spine surgery is taught to residents and fellows. He has also worked at Houston Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital and Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he served as Chief of Spine Surgery, as well as St. Joseph Medical Center.

In addition to the highlights of Dr. Kushwaha’s career, he was the first surgeon in Houston to perform the lumbar artificial disk replacement and the kyphoplasty procedure. This has made him well-regarded throughout the medical community, and he is a consultant for a range of leading companies, including Medtronics, Synthes Spine, and Spine Frontier among others.

“I have developed a practice where I’ve treated, literally thousands of patients. So, I have a lot of patients out in the community, throughoutHouston, throughout Texas, and throughout the country. I’ve also been on the faculty at the University of Texas, where I was the Chief of the Spine Service there. So, I [have] a lot of experience with complicated surgeries and with problems that other doctors couldn’t fix.” – Dr. Kushwaha
