Benefits of Regenerative Injection
Regenerative medicine is a rapidly evolving and promising treatment for various conditions. Stem cell and PRP injections stimulate healing of discs, and can be a useful alternative therapy to opioid pain medicine and steroid injections, or to avoid surgical procedures. These therapies are often helpful in treating acute and chronic pain conditions, although it may not be an option for everyone. Your treating physician will determine if this is a treatment option for you.Free MRI/CT Review
Details of the Regenerative Injection
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is an injection of a high concentration of platelets (taken from the patient’s own blood) into injured tissues to promote or give a jump start in the healing process. Platelets contain growth-factor components and other healing properties that is beneficial for several types of medical conditions including the following:
- Soft tissue injury, such as tendinosis and tendonitis, rotator cuff or meniscal injury
- Chronic conditions, such as osteoarthritis, sciatica, sacroiliac joint pain, low back or neck pain
Stem cell injections are a more advanced type of injection that aids in the healing process. Stem cells help coordinate the repair response and is capable of regenerating new tissue. For the procedure, stem cells are used in conjunction with platelets to be injected into various damaged and injured tissues. There are several different sources and types of stem cells, which will vary per physician.
Preparing for the Regenerative Injection
Before receiving an injection, most physicians will require an MRI or CT-scan to get a better picture of what could be causing the pain. Often, an injection is often just one portion of the conservative treatment method a physician may suggest to treat back or neck pain. Other methods include physical therapy and chiropractic adjustments. If these conservative methods have not produced meaningful, long-lasting relief, you may be a candidate for a surgical North American Spine procedure.Explore Our Facilities
Regenerative Injection Recovery
Most patients will be able to return to work or play the very next day, though the injection site may have some dull soreness. These injections are safe, and side effects–including headaches and infections–are rare. Your doctor will be able to discuss your specific case and any risks with you prior to the procedure.
