Diagnosis: Severe lower back pain, managing pain somewhat with powerful painkillers. I worked in the oilfield for 20 years doing very extreme manual labor at a very young age. Eight months prior to laser surgery, I had an open back surgery to remove a herniated disc that had me in pain for well over 15 years. During the operation, the surgeon suggested I had a spinal fusion. Knowing what that would involve, I declined due to the horror stories as well as the cost and down time that it would involve. I tried epidural and steroid injections with little to no help. I then went to a North American Spine seminar, and got excited!

Pre-Surgery Life Style/ Condition: Prior to surgery, life was horrible. I could not do any of the things I wanted to do. No golfing, no hunting, nothing!! What energy I could build up was barely enough to even drive to work. I woke up at 5:00am everyday in extreme pain. It got to the point that I did not care to live anymore!! Thank GOD for North American Spine, they saved my life!

Post-Surgery Outcome: Once arriving at the hospital for a consultation, everything was a quick go. The staff treated me better than any doctor’s office I had ever been to. On the day of surgery, the procedure was very pleasant. Unlike the previous situations I had been through over the years, I was not scared at all. The surgeon stated I had many reasons to be hurting. I had several pinched nerves, a lot of scar tissue, along with arthritis. After being operated on for one and a half hours, I was out of the hospital three hours after arriving. A miracle! The following day after the follow up, I walked around two miles at a museum, drove sixty miles to an aquarium and walked about one more mile. The next morning, I drove straight through to my house, more than twelve hundred miles with very minimal pain! I could not believe it, or anyone else.

Wow! I don’t even know where to start! I can tell you last week, I played a 36 hole golf tournament and came in sixth place. NO MORE PAIN PILLS!!!! I do not wake up hurting anymore, however a week or so after surgery I kept waking up at the same time – 5:00am – and couldn’t figure out why. Come to find out, I hurt so bad for so many years that my body was used to the pain at that time, I was waking up expecting to hurt, but to this day, I have ZERO back pain when I get up at 10:00 on weekends now!!! My life has changed so much that I often cry in joy. No limping, no aching, and I feel 20 years younger now. Simply put; I have my life “BACK”.
